Detecting clinically if You have Yeast Infection

It is just not merely looking or checking if there have been changes in your vaginal discharge when trying to find out if you have a yeast infection. It is quite normal to have vaginal discharges and definitely not a sign of someone having a yeast infection.
Steps on how to detect if you have a yeast infection:

Observe if you experience extreme itchiness, irritation or burning sensation in your genital area. This is the major sign of a yeast infection. Though not all yeast infections have fungus, fungal yeast infection is one type of yeast infection comparable to trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis that are produced by parasites and bacteria.

Vaginitis test - wet mount
A test called wet mount can aid so much in determining the reason of a vaginal irritation. This type of procedure is safe and it will only take a few minutes to get the results. You will be given a gown or drape because you have to be undressed first from the waist down before the procedure starts. You will be instructed to lie down on your back, then you will have to raise your knees and your feet will placed on the stirrups. A speculum will be put inside your vagina to make a small opening. This process does not hurt, but you might experience some minor uneasiness.

See if you have a white, cottage-cheese-like vaginal discharge that is odorless. This is important because if it smells fishy then you might be having bacterial vaginosis.

See if when you urinate, it’s painful.

A sign of yeast infection is when you try to put in a tampon in your vagina and when having sexual intercourse, you will feel irritation or pain.

Immediately consult a physician and describe what you have been undergoing and that you are thinking that you might have a yeast infection. Certain procedures might be performed when you consult a physician. Some procedures are pelvic examinations and another one is to get some discharge sample from your vagina. A pelvic examination is done to asses for inflammation in the vulva skin and inside the vagina. Then the physician will insert a moist and disinfected cotton swab to get some samples of your vaginal secretions. This kind of procedure can obtain results which could determine if you have a yeast infection or if you have some other vaginal infection that is caused by bacteria.

The procedure is complete as soon as samples are taken. The discharge samples will be placed or smeared into slides and will be tested under a microscope for verification of yeast fungus. Some specimen might be cultured to know if yeast or a further type of microorganism exists.
